Another trip over to the West Coast to have a bit of fun, this time flying into the Whitcombe River with Pat Amberger (Precision Heli), the latest in a string of pilots new to the coast. Pat makes a great addition to the whitewater scene, clearly sharing in the stoke and more than willing to 'just pop around the corner for a look', always on time and most importantly; super relaxed which is just what you want in a heli pilot!
Chris and I loaded trusty Fraser the Ford Laser and began the mission west.
Once over on the coast, we met up with Finn, Sam and Phil for a quick catch-up at the heli pick up.
Pat from Precision Heli in his R44, perfect for summer days!
The Hoki-Whitcombe confluence, with two-thirds of bugger-all water in the Hoki.
Eyeing up the goods, you know it's gonna be good when it looks fun from the chopper, things always get bigger once down at river level.
It's always an airy feeling being left alone in the wilderness, the sound of the heli dying away knowing some good, honest West Coast kayaking is what separates you from the beer at the end of the day.
Phil firing off this clean, 10 footer.
Sam following suit
And Finn doing the same.
Cheers lads for an awesome day out, great to share some banter to while away the flat paddle out, til next time...
