Summer 2014

The time spent travelling throughout the North and South Islands for the remainder of the summer break was great.  Immediately following my departure from Anchor Island, I travelled to Invercargill to wish Amy a happy birthday (where we saw tuatara) and farewell her as she left for Codfish Island (Kakapo Recovery as well).

While in Invercargill, we were lucky enough to see the tuatara being fed.

From Invercargill, I travelled up to Queenstown to catch up with Shaun and Jacs.  We walked the final day of the Routeburn track (Glenorchy end) up to Routeburn Falls hut and back.  Walking alongside the Routeburn River with a bit of extra water in it, I was pining to be back in a kayak!

The views from the historic slip site were remarkable

The following day we ventured up to Wye Creek for a spot of climbing.  Unfortunately we got a few spots of rain - not ideal!

Not a bad view for lunch

Unfortunately Jacs was the only one to climb, here she is cleaning the route in the pouring rain

Overhangs were the place to be, here a foreign climber attempts a grade 21 overhung route that was still dry
