Styx Kayaking and Kokatahi Tramping

This post contains a few images from an action packed weekend on the coast kayaking the Styx River and tramping up the Kokatahi River.  But first...

A lot has changed in the past month with the flatties and I moving out of Holliss Ave and into the Challis Palace, with Amy!  We have sacrificed our view over Cashmere for a new view over Ferrymead, the estuary being an everchanging sight.

Ferrymead estuary by day...
and by night.
This image shows the start of a huge storm rolling into Canterbury, the commencement of 5 days of (at time) torrential rain.

The irony here was not lost on me, noone is crossing this ford today.  The Heathcote River is somewhere in amongst the water, usually a mere 2 m wide
Sumner by night
Great sunsets from the air
Sunset over Mt Egmont on the Hamilton-Wellington flight
Cheeky kea in Arthur's Pass village
Ferns on the hike into the Styx River

A personal favourite of mine, this dew laden fern was stunning in the morning light

Mid way through the one hour hike up the Styx River
Dan pauses to reflect and catch his breath
Dappled light in the side stream
Hook grass, curse it!

Will plays Tarzan swinging on supplejack vines
Will getting his nose up in the early rapids
Colourful rash top and no dry top - suns out, guns out! Just for you Phil!

Huges getting his lean-to-boof on
Stiffy running the fun stuff
What happens when you leave Amy with the camera?!
Amy on the run out
James having a good time
and a bad time...
Nothing to see here folks...

"Yay I'm a seagull"

Late night hot chocolates in the tent

The exit to Whakarira Gorge on the Kokatahi River
Stunning native bush, less than two hours from the road!
One of my favourite places on the planet.  Amy and I shared a great picnic lunch in here, miles and miles from anywhere with not a soul in sight!

And now I'm struggling to adapt to city life in Hamilton...
